  7. Informational – Describe connections between two people, events, ideas, or information in the text

  8. 2nd Grade

  9. Literature – Start responding to events and challenges the characters are going through

  10. Informational – Describe connections between two series of events, ideas, or steps in a procedure and add more detail

  11. 3-4th Grade

  12. Literature – Be able to describe characters, settings, and major events in depth

  13. Describe the relationship among a series of events ideas, and steps in a procedure and add more detail

  14. 5th Grade

  15. Literature – Compare and contrast characters, settings, and events

  16. Explain the relationships among people, events, ideas, or concepts in texts and cite specific information

  17. Literacy Skills and Strategies

  18. Informational Texts

  19. Need a variety of texts!

  20. Differentiation: Look for texts that relate to the students’ backgrounds, histories, ancestries, situations, and heritages.

  21. For ELL and ESOL students, books in native language or have snippets of it in the text can greatly assist in contextual information

  22. Literature

  23. Find books with different themes and plots

  24. Differentiation: Add books with differing main characters (both male and female, majority and minority) to attract students of all backgrounds and ages.

  25. Book matching – actively search for books that match the interests of your students, not just the generic populace

  29. Make up a character with a setting, likes and dislikes, and characteristics

  30. Draw their characters

  31. You can draw things from Pinterest, as long as you know the Standard

  32. 1st Grade

  34. Graphic Organizer to describe character with details and quotes from the text

  35. 2nd Grade

  36. Compare and Contrast Story Map

  37. Compare and contrast characters, setting, problem, attempt to resolve, and resolution

  38. 3rd Grade

  39. Sequence Chain

  40. Put the story in sequence

  41. Chronological Order

  42. 4th Grade

  43. Cause and Effect Graphic Organizer

  44. Identify ideas (effects) and how they affect the events (causes)

  45. 5th Grade
